The Torture Garden

A poster from one of the original Grand Guignol plays. Ran across this when I was poking through some old e-mails from the first year of Blood Brothers. We based the final effect in What Color Is The Sun? on a historical description of the Ribbon of Flesh effect from Choisy's production of Le Jardin Des Supplices.

Regarding your website about Theatre Grand Guignol, International School Manila would appreciate if you could answer a few questions about production. My name is Neelam Gopwani, a student at International School Manila, and your website is very helpful and amazing. I'm doing a research investigation on Grand Guignol for my IB Higher Level Theatre Course, and would love it if you could help me answer a few questions about the practice.

In Grand Guignol's The Torture Garden (The Ribbon of Flesh torture scene), how are the elements of violence portrayed in play? Is there fake blood splattered all of the stage? How do they kill people on stage without looking fake? Are there any techniques you know about?

Thanks so much for your time, hope to you hear from you soon
